You can use your payment card anywhere that accepts MasterCard.

Yes, after each card load, you receive one free ATM transaction at Huntington Bank ATMs and at select PNC locations (click here for the list of PNC ATMs that offer a free transaction).

To check your card balance, change your pin number, and manage your card, you can register it at www.paynuver.com.

Yes! Please reach out to us at either ppel@pitt.edu or 412-204-6845 (call or text) and we will mail you a replacement card and transfer your card balance.

SMART Payment Information

A SMART Payment is a digital payment made by the same processor as our physical card payments. Instead of receiving a physical card that we load payments on, you receive a link by e-mail and/or text message each time we pay you where you can claim the funds and choose how they are delivered.

There are three options for accepting the payment. You can add the card to your phone's wallet as a virtual debit card, push the funds to your debit card, or transfer the funds to your bank account.

Funds must be claimed within 7 days. After that, the payment will be expired.

Please contact us at ppel@pitt.edu or 412-204-6845 (call or text) to let us know. We can reissue the payment, and it will give you another 7 days to claim the funds at the new link.

No, the information is only used for a one-time transaction and must be re-entered for any future transactions.

Study Activities

Typically, we come to you at your home for the in-person visits. If an in-home visit does not work well for you, we can also meet with you and your child in our lab space on Pitt's campus in Oakland.

For Zoom calls, in most cases, you would be logging in through a device in your home. If you are unable to complete the calls from your home, a quiet, private place such as a study room in a library or other similar space is also a good option.

We have very flexible availability including evening and weekend times. Typically, we schedule between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Thursday, between 8:30 am and 3:00 pm Friday, and between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm on Saturday. If those times do not work for you, we can also schedule outside of those ranges by request.

Both the in-person visits and the Zoom calls typically take between 1 and 1.5 hours to complete. We advise you to block 2 hours off just in case of any delays or interruptions. If you have specific time constraints, please make sure to let us know at the time of scheduling and we will be happy to accommodate!

You (the participating parent) and your child (who has previously participated with us) should be available during the visits. If another parent, adult, or other children (i.e. siblings) will also be present, we simply ask that they allow you and your child to complete the tasks without interruptions if possible.

For the in-person visits, no, we will provide all the materials that are needed for you and your child to participate.

For the zoom calls, we may ask you to provide your child with paper and something to write with.

For the phone interview, we would like to discuss a typical school day for your child. Because of this, we usually have you keep track of a Monday through Thursday during the week and then will call you the following day. We typically make those calls between 8:30 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday through Thursday and 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Friday. We are flexible and can discuss an alternative schedule with you if our usual hours do not work with your schedule!

The phone interview typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour but is usually closer to 30 minutes.

We will ask you to detail the activities you and your child did on the day you keep track of, as well as the times they started or ended, who else was present, and where you were. If you and your child were not together at a specific time, there is no need to find out what your child did as we are mostly interested in the time you spend together. Please refer to the time tracker that was provided at your home visit for specifics on what to keep track of and email our team (ppel@pitt.edu) if you need a replacement copy.

If you need to reschedule for any reason, please reach out to us by email at ppel@pitt.edu or call/text us at 412-204-6845 and we will be happy to help you!
