Comprehension

In the area of Comprehension, researchers explore the cognitive science of reading and language processes to investigate how people learn and understand language. Specific areas of study include how linguistic devices affect what we learn and remember over the long term (see Fraundorf), the nature of reading ability and second language processes (see Perfetti and Tokowicz), and characterizing the mental systems that allow a reader to take a string of words and form an appropriate mental representation of their context (see Warren). See also A Reading Comprehension Intervention for Dual Language Learners and A Measure of Individual Differences in Readers' Approaches to Text and Its Relation to Reading Experience and Reading Comprehension (see Perfetti).
