For
undergraduates interested in participating in research experiences
Currently
there are three research areas in which you can participate:
- Complex
spatial cognition. This is a basic research project for those students
interested in basic cognitive psychology or neuroscience research experiences.
- Design
Learning. This is an applied research project for those students
interested in educational psychology and science education.
- Learning
from Peers. This is a mixed basic/applied research project for those
students interested in the intersection of cognitive and educational
psychology.
Check out
those links, and see which general project is most interesting to you. Send
me an email (schunn@pitt.edu), and we'll
work on the specific details of a project together.
Requirements
for participation:
- Willingness
and capacity to committ 10hrs/week for at least one semester. I try to
provide research experiences that go through a full cycle in one semester,
but that doesn't work if you don't put in enough time.
- Ability
to complete work on time without someone yelling at you. Research requires
self-motivation.
- No prior
coursework required.
Fine
print:
- Students
who are eligible for the Federal Work Study program (if you don't know,
you probably aren't), there are always opportunities to be paid as a workstudy
for your work in the lab.
- Psychology
Majors who have taken Research Methods can participate for course credit
under Psychology 1905.
- Most students
participate just for the experience initially, and then later for course
credit or even a senior thesis project.
