LRDC Computing Services maintains laser printers throughout the Center. Floors 3, and 5 through 8 have two high-speed printers per floor, each with a duplex unit.  The 4th floor has one laser printer with duplex.  Click here for a list of laser printers and locations. If you need to print labels or transparencies, please call x4-7033 for assistance. We keep these types of special laser printer materials in stock and can provide you with the proper material or arrange to print your job for you. There is no charge for labels or transparencies. If you have special needs such as card stock, nametags, etc., we have a small printer that can accept a variety of laser printer materials. Please consult with us at least two weeks in advance so we can help you purchase the appropriate materials. Your project will be responsible for this cost.

For your color printing needs, we have an HP Color LaserJet 9500.  It is a high-speed, high-quality printer, capable of double-sided printing. If you need to print in color, stop by room 506 with your file and project number. Although the printers are on the network, we prefer that users print from room 506 with assistance from the student operators. Printing to these printers requires special drivers and it is also important that the proper paper stock is loaded in the paper tray. We will charge your project for the cost of materials only. Although the laser printers themselves were very expensive, the printing materials are not. Your project will be charged between 25 and 85 cents per page, depending on toner usage and media. Click here more information and a price chart.

For printing large format printouts such as posters and storyboards, we have a new HP DesignJet 5500PS printer-plotter, in addition to our existing HP DesignJet 755CM printer-plotter. The 5500 is capable of printing posters up to 42" in width. It's 6-cartridge system provides more diverse color ranges and can print up to 1200x600 dots per inch.. The printing time is generally 7 to 15 minutes for a 3 x 4 feet poster. The cost to print a poster is based on three factors—size, amount of ink, and type of paper. Paper rolls are available in different types, in widths of 24, 36, and 42 inches. Printing prices, which include the cost of supplies only, range from $1.45-$6.90 per sq. ft. Click here for a poster price chart. If you would like to create a poster, simply create one PowerPoint slide. Make sure the size of the slide is the same size as the poster you want to create. When your poster is ready, call Computing Services to schedule a time to print your poster. Posters with a lot of graphics can take a very long time to print, so please schedule at least one day in advance. If you have more than five posters to print, we will need at least a week lead-time.

A short document, "Creating Powerpoint Posters at LRDC" is available for those interested in creating and printing posters. This document can help ease the pain of making a poster, giving valuable information regarding cut and paste options, size, and choices of colors or fonts.  For more information, contact Jeff (x4-7060) or Anthony   (x4-7474).
